Edinburgh, Scotland is home to the first and largest Fringe Festival in the world. Each August, artists bring thousands of shows—in 2025, the number was just under 4,000—to the Scottish capital. In 1997, the first Philadelphia Fringe Festival took place in Old City, inspired by the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
